PERPETUUM MOBILE

The pinwheel is overlaid with the memories of my childhood. When I was a child, I made a pinwheel in art class and was impressed by how it whirled in the breeze. It has expanded my imagination to how people’s life orbits around their own orbit. Our world spins around us, with each of us at the center, like the pinwheel. If one wing of the pinwheel is broken, it cannot spin. In the same way, our lives are filled with miracles that we often overlook. Reminiscent of childhood memories of playing with pinwheels, I chose a fidget spinner as an inspiration for my thesis. I want to develop a feeling of playfulness for wearers of my jewelry.

Computer 3D modeled, 3D printed, lost-wax casted, then fabricated and finally hand-polished, my works are made of silver, copper, brass, and plastic with gemstones aspects which are movable. Most of my rings are designed to connect the index finger to the thumb. The part of the ring that is on the finger is immovable as a normal ring, but there are extensions on each ring which are movable, based on geometric shapes. I wanted to combine the immovable and movable elements.
Rotating objects are hypnotic and creating a satisfying, calming effect. This is what I hope to achieve with my jewelry.
